Taiwan Fashion Design Award (TFDA), the major annual event in Asia’s fashion industry, has been successfully initiated on October 5th at Warehouse No.4 of Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. Hsieh, Yi-Ting from Taiwan, the designer of the work “White Hope ” was granted the First Prize and a reward of US$10,000, proving to be the best among the 12 competitors selected from nearly 400 participants from 12 countries worldwide. The two winners of Second Prizes were awarded to Chong, Hoiho with the Work “CONCRETE JUNGLE ” and Wang, Yi Hung with “Future of Miksars ", each with a reward of US$5,000. The third prizes were divided into three categories, the Best Use of Fabrics, the Best Pattern Making, and the Best Market Potential awards were rewarded to Chen, Ching-Lin, Kuo, Hang Sheng, and Tsai, Hui-Hsuan respectively, each with a reward of US$3,000.

Organized by Taiwan’s Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs and executed by the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF), the TFDA is entering its 34rd anniversary this year. Since 2013, TFDA has been extended to be an international contest, thus drawing more and more talents from overseas to participate in this contest. Professionals in the fashion industry, from around the world, have been invited to serve as judges for the TFDA as well. This year’s jury is composed by influential professionals who are renowned in international fashion world, including Nao Takekoshi and Dai Fujiwara, the international designers, Stephane Dou, the Taiwanese designer, Valéria Bessolo LLopiz, International Director of ELLE, Jane Singer, Managing Director of Inside Fashion, Tomonori Matsui, CEO of ONEO Ltd. and Charlotte Chiang, Director of TTF’s Textiles and Fashion Design Department.
Despite the challenging circumstances COVID-19 pandemic has been brought to TFDA this year, the executive team overcame the obstacles of distance by commencing the final contest and judging process via live-streaming for the jury committee. Many of the Taiwanese contestants this year are students from overseas academy that stayed in Taiwan during the pandemic. Although being sojourned in their motherland, they still kept honing their design prowess with their experience in this contest. The number of audience has also set a new record in the TFDA history: over 650 audiences participated due to the successful epidemic prevention work of Taiwan.

Over the 34 years, TFDA provides a platform for the young fashion designers to demonstrate their creativity. It’s also a platform for fashion design oriented companies to discover potential talents, as they become potential forces that cultivate the development of textile and apparel industry.
